Hosted Inbox infrastructure upgrade - scheduled service outage
Our hosted exchange partner is currently in the process of moving to a new purpose built facility. They have now reached phase 2 of the move which involves moving all the servers to the new data centre. This will inevitably result in interruption to the hosted exchange service but they aim to keep this to a minimum.

It is also important to note that throughout the whole move process no incoming mails will be lost or rejected as a result of the move. All mails will be queued and processed as normal immediately after the server move is complete.
They are currently working to the timelines below and we will let you know if anything changes.

FRIDAY 5th February

18:00 - All services cease. This includes Mail, Control Panel, Sharepoint, LCS and Blackberry.

24:00 - Mails to Blackberrys using Exchange 2003 will resume. Sending will not yet be enabled.

SATURDAY 6th February

08:00 - Email services will resume, including the ability to send and receive for both Exchange 2003 and 2007 Blackberry users.

20:00 - All services including Mail, Control Panel, Sharepoint and LCS will be fully operational.

SUNDAY 7th February

They will be conducting extensive testing through Saturday night and all day Sunday so the systems may well be subject to brief interrupts from Saturday morning. Where these are necessary they will be kept to the absolute minimum in time terms. Their aim is to have all of this finished by 20:00 on Sunday.

We do appreciate it may cause you some inconvenience over this particular weekend and your patience over this short period will be very much appreciated.

James Bourne to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for the Fire Fighters Charity
In January 2010, our very own James Bourne will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides support for fire fighters and their families where unfortunately injury, stress or other problems can occur from performing this demanding and dangerous service.

Local magazine 'Look Frinton' is publishing a monthly column of computing advice written by GML Networking Technologies. Focussing on a different core computing area each issue, the column offers the benefit of GML's experience in the industry. Readers can also email their questions to be answered to look@gmlnt.com

Office development phase one complete.
The first phase of the recent expansion and development of our premises is complete. The building work was undertaken to provide new custom-built office space and dedicated climate-controlled server facilities.

Development of premises
Expansion of the GML head office building is underway. The development will extend the office space and provide an enhanced frontage and parking area.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused for visitors to our premises while construction takes place.

GML becomes accredited registrar and expands domain name range.

GML has become a CentralNic accredited registrar, expanding the range of domain name extensions available. Domain extensions such as UK.COM and UK.NET among others will shortly be available. These will be available to search from our WHOIS page.

GML Broadband
Details of the changes to the GML Broadband accounts are now available on the site. Existing packages will automatically be upgraded to the equivalent new package type.


March 2009

GML broadband account changes
GML Broadband users will by now have received notification of changes to the accounts by email. The prices for all of the standard accounts will be reduced, and there are changes to the way bandwidth is calculated amongst other things. The new accounts start on 30th March and the relevant pages will be updated with detailed information and price lists before this date.

GML has been upgraded to a Zyxel ZyBronze partner.


January 2009

GML Broadband accounts commence upgrade to 21CN
As part of the national rollout of the 21CN IP-based fibre network, GML Broadband accounts are in the process of migration to the new programme.

21CN is the name given to BT's next generation fibre network. It will allow ISPs to offer ADSL2+ speeds and increased stability, amongst other things.

GML's broadband partner Entanet is at the forefront of the rollouts, having been the only non-BT company involved in trials, and also being heavily involved in consultation and development.

21CN products are currently being prepared and more information will be available in the near future.

Windows 7 evaluation
Microsoft Windows 7 is currently under evaluation by our technical team. The new operating system is due for release later this year and will supersede Windows Vista.

VAT rate change
All GML bespoke software and financial packages can be updated simply by amending the standard (S) VAT rate from 17.5 to 15.0. Please contact us if you require assistance.

AVG 7.5 upgrade to AVG 8
AVG 7.5 free and commercial versions expire on 31 December 2008. There will be no more virus definitions updates after this date. We recommend users upgrade to AVG 8 before the end of the year. Please contact us for assistance if required.
